More than 40 years of specialty practice

     Stuart Selkin, MD, JD, has been in private practice as an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist since 1973. Soon after completing his training at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and earning his specialty board certification, he began consulting at Long Island’s major theaters. With focus on care of the professional voice, his patients include nationally and internationally-renowned entertainers.

    A musician and musicologist, he plays the guitar and keyboard.

    He lectures locally, nationally, and internationally and is well-published in the journals of his specialty on such topics as video photography of performers’ vocal cords in action. He has authored chapters in major textbooks that address topics in which medicine, ethics, and law converge. He has taught medical students, law students, lawyers, interns, residents, and other Ear, Nose, & Throat specialists.

    He chairs symposia for voice teachers, speech pathologists, and professional voice users. Recognizing his expertise, the Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery has honored him for his scientific contributions.

    A former Ranger and Paratrooper, he was decorated by the governments of the United States and of South Vietnam for “exemplary..., meritorious..., heroic service” as a Medical Officer during the conflict in Southeast Asia.

    He’s been recognized for his aiding Native American Health Care at Rosebud Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. And The New York Times reported on his contributions to medicine in skydiving, in an article that you can read here.

   He earned his M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) from the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1966, and his J.D. (Doctor of Law) Cum Laude from the Touro Law Center in 1998.

    He married his law school classmate, and in 1997, Stuart and Pamela Selkin were adopted into the Cherokee Nation. Avid and adventurous sea kayakers, they're devotees of traditional Greenland kayaking, kayak building, and kayak rolling techniques.

    Dr. Selkin’s strictly outpatient practice focuses on voice, throat, sinus, nose, and ear problems, especially those that are encountered by vocal performers. He always gives you, his patient, the time, the care, and the attention that you deserve.
