Dr. Selkin’s financial policy
(Or, how to make sense out of your medical insurance coverage)
Dr. Selkin is a provider for (1) Medicare, (2) Workers Compensation, and (3) No-Fault. And (4) if your medical insurance coverage gives you out-of network benefits, he can often work directly with your plan.
He is not a provider for any (1) Managed Care, (2) Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), (3) Managed Care panel, or (4) Medicare Advantage (Medicare HMO) plan.
Dr. Selkin advocates for you—which means always giving you the time, care, and attention you deserve. And that’s incompatible with the time and treatment limitations imposed by Managed Care, HMOs, Managed Care panels, and Medicare Advantage.
A few important insurance concepts:
Some insurance plans give you only in-network benefits. That means that they will pay only if you visit a physician who is a provider for your plan.
Others insurance plans give you out-of-network benefits. That means that they will pay when you visit any physician—even if that physician is not a provider for your plan.
Almost all plans have a deductible. That’s the amount that you have to pay your physician before your insurance carrier starts to pay. Out-of-network deductibles are almost always higher than in-network deductibles.
Some plans have a co-pay. That’s the amount that your insurance carrier expects you to pay to your physician at each visit.
Your deductible and your co-pay are two completely different responsibilities. And deductibles and co-pays have nothing to do with whether your plan requires a referral.
It’s important that you learn about what benefits your plan does—and does not—provide. If you have any questions about your coverage, we can help you. So when you call for an appointment, please have your insurance information available. .
Finally, your insurance policy is a contract between you and your carrier; and Dr. Selkin is not a party to that contract. You must therefore understand that when he provides services to you, responsibility for all payment is yours. That’s why we also accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express.
